Using AI Search
Before you search
Confirm:
- AI Search is enabled in Settings and the model is ready
- You have opened a folder with photos
- Images are indexed (check the indexed count in Settings; run Reindex All Images if the count is low)
Turn on AI Search mode
In the header, next to the search field, enable the AI Search checkbox.
The search placeholder changes to: Describe what you’re looking for…
When AI Search is off, the same field uses standard filename/metadata search.
Run a search
- Type a natural description (not just one word unless that is enough).
- Press Enter or click the search button.
Examples:
- “woman in yellow dress at outdoor wedding”
- “close-up of espresso cup on wooden table”
- “snowy street at night with lights”
Understanding results
- The grid shows photos that best match your description (up to 50).
- The breadcrumb area shows you are viewing search results and how many files matched.
- This is not the same as filtering by a keyword tag—you are in a temporary results view.
Clear AI search results
Click Clear in the search bar to return to normal folder browsing.
Tips for better matches
- Be specific about subject, setting, colors, or action.
- If results are weak, try rephrasing or a shorter description.
- Make sure more of your library is indexed (Settings shows progress).
- Very large libraries may need time after opening before background indexing catches up.
AI Search vs tag filter
| Feature | How you start it | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| AI Search | Description in search bar + AI checkbox | Semantically similar images |
| Tag filter | Click a tag in the Tags panel | Only images with that keyword |
You can use Clear tag in the header when a tag filter is active.
Refresh limitation
While viewing AI search results, Refresh is disabled until you clear the search.
