Detailed guides for every LunaFinder feature: search, tagging, browsing, storage, and more.

Setting Up AI Search

Open Settings

Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top-left of the main window. In the Settings window, expand the AI Search section (labeled Experimental).

  1. Find Enable AI-powered search.
  2. Turn the switch on.

The first time you enable it:

  • LunaFinder downloads a model of about 600 MB
  • You need a stable internet connection
  • A progress indicator shows Downloading model… with a percentage

When finished, you should see Model loaded and ready with a green status indicator.

Step 2: Open your photo folder

AI indexing applies to the library folder you have open. If Settings says there are no images in the project, use Open Folder first, then return to Settings.

Step 3: Index your images

Automatic indexing

After AI Search is enabled and the model is ready, LunaFinder indexes new images in the background as you browse and add files to the library. You may see a notification such as AI Search Indexing with progress.

Manual full reindex

For a complete refresh (recommended after enabling AI on a large existing library):

  1. In Settings → AI Search, find Index images for AI Search.
  2. Note the line X of Y images indexed.
  3. Click Reindex All Images.

Reindexing every image from scratch can take a long time on large libraries. A progress bar shows how many images have been processed.

You must have a folder open and at least one image in the project to reindex.

Redownload the model

If the model is corrupted or an update requires a fresh download:

  1. When status is Model loaded and ready, click Redownload Model.
  2. Confirm the message that the cached model (~600 MB) will be deleted and downloaded again.
